Sapphic Supper Club: Soup Edition | What We Make When We Slow Down
Gather with your sisters, your loves, your chosen family for an evening of food, presence, and intentional slowness at Oakland Test Kitchen. This is a supper club for wlw, sapphic, trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming folks—a table built for us, by us.
Chef Jessy Manuel has spent 48 hours building the heart of this meal: a silky, aromatic Laksa infused with locally grown red chiles, galangal, lemongrass, and kaffir lime. In a world obsessed with speed and instant gratification, those 48 hours are a quiet rebellion—a reminder that the things worth having take time, intention, and care. The same care we pour into building community, into showing up for each other, into the slow work of loving and being loved.
You’ll arrive to a collective ritual: together, you’ll pick fresh herbs as a group, wash them, tear them roughly. There’s something sacred in that slowness—in moving together, in preparing something with intention. Then you’ll move into the soup service, find your seat at the table, and receive a bowl that’s taken two days to make. We’ll close the evening with conversation and reflective prompts—a chance to reflect on what we make when we slow down, on what this night stirred up in you.
This is food as medicine. This is time as love. This is us.
